Mehrzad completed his undergraduate studies at Shiraz University in Civil Engineering in 2012 and subsequent graduate work at Sharif University of Technology (SUT) in Geotechnical Engineering in 2015. In his master research at SUT, he used non-destructive testing to study the effect of hydro-mechanical loading on the small strain shear modulus and damping ratio of unsaturated soils.  Mehrzad started his Ph.D. studies in 2016 and joined the RAMSIS lab to work beyond the bounds of traditional geotechnical engineering. His research focuses on stochastic simulation of levees and floodwalls against storm surge loadings. The goal of his research is to provide a better understanding of the complex behaviors of flood defense systems, enable more accurate forecasts of the performance of these systems during storm surge events, and finally devise more effective ways to transfer the produced information to decision makers.
